An unforgettable love story begins at the end of the 19th century, when the search for a better life in America draws together young Matheu and Juliana, the protagonists of the first phase of Terra Nostra. Matheu and Juliana are on the steamship that leaves Genoa and crosses the Atlantic Ocean, taking whole families of humble and hard-working Italians to toil in the Brazilian coffee plantations, now devoid of slave labor. Matheu and Juliana, two dreamers, fall in love on the ship. In the midst of their joy, however, tragedy strikes. Her parents catch the plague and die. Just as Juliana is getting over her tragic loss, the plague - that spreads through the ship - contaminates Matheu, the only person she has left in the world. Juliana spends days caring for her loved one. Miraculously, she doesn’t catch the sickness and he recovers. Then, after a long night of passionate love-making under the stars, they believe they will never be separated...
