“You Stink” activist to LBCI: We will not stand still in face of corruption

“You Stink” campaign activist Marwan Maalouf stated on Sunday that civil society activists will not stand still in face of corruption, stressing that their movements will yield fruitful results.

Maalouf told LBCI’s Nharkom Said that “You Stink” activists will escalate their movements if the cabinet did not meet their demands, stressing that Lebanon’s pressing waste crisis is a collective responsibility that should be shouldered by a number of ministries.

On another note, Maalouf noted that only 7 citizens participated in the campaign’s first protest that was held almost 2 months ago, emphasizing that “all Lebanese citizens are currently supporting the movement.”

Massive demonstrations launched by environmental anti-corruption activists, “You Stink”, kicked off on Saturday (August 22) evening to protest the government’s failure to resolve the waste management crisis.

Lebanon has been grappling with a waste crisis following the July 17 closure of the Naameh landfill.

The cabinet pledged last year that the said landfill would be shut down and an alternative site would be found, however failed to live up to its promises.
