All roads leading Martyrs’ Square blocked
The security forces implemented on Thursday tight measures, whereby they blocked all roads leading to Martyrs Square in downtown Beirut, in anticipation for the popular movement expected to be held later today as of 6 pm.

On another note, the dialogue session scheduled for today and meant to tackle ways out of the political crisis, was reportedly cancelled after politicians made no progress on issues including high-level security appointments during previous talks.

The three-day "national dialogue" launched on Tuesday and called for by Nabih Berri was aimed at finding solutions to the stalemate that has paralyzed government and helped fuel weeks of street protests.

The talks were set to run into Thursday but Berri postponed the next session until Oct. 26. The dialogue involving sectarian political rivals comes after weeks of protests that have occasionally turned violent.

Thousands of Lebanese took to the streets in anger over trash disposal, corruption and government incompetence.

The rallies have been organized independently of the main sectarian parties in a direct challenge to the political system.
