Defense Minister Samir Moqbel announced Tuesday that some politicians called for holding a cabinet session.
However, Moqbel clarified that Prime Minister Tammam Salam will not hold a cabinet session before rivals reach a solution in terms of the alarming waste management crisis.
Following his meeting with Premier Salam at the Grand Serail, Minister Moqbel reiterated that the PM is holding consecutive meetings and will reach soon a solution over trash crisis.
On another note, Moqbel stressed that the security situation is under control, pointing out that all the apparatuses are coordinating together in this regard.
Lebanon has been grappling with a waste crisis following the July 17 closure of the Naameh landfill.
The cabinet pledged last year that the said landfill would be shut down and an alternative site would be found, however failed to live up to its promises.
The piles of garbage rotting in the summer heat triggered nationwide outrage and serious health warnings. To get rid of waste, frustrated residents set fire to dumpsters and trash containers, further polluting the hot and humid air.
