Lebanese leaders praise release of Arsal servicemen
Al Qaeda's Syrian wing, the Nusra Front, released on Tuesday 16 Lebanese soldiers and policemen held captive since August, 2014 in a Qatari-mediated deal that also secured freedom for a jailed ex-wife of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

In this context, Minister of Interior Nohad Mashnouq noted that “the seriousness of the General Security did not go in vain," adding that their efforts resulted in the release of the kidnapped servicemen.”

For his part, Future Movement leader Saad Hariri said via his Twitter account that the swap deal is "a victory for the Lebanese army and the security apparatuses against all pressure."

He also thanked Prime Minister Tammam Salam, the crisis cell, the Ministry of Interior, the General Security, Major General Ibrahim Abbas and Qatar for their efforts in releasing the captive soldiers.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Wael Abou Faour pledged before the families of the servicemen in Riyad al-Solh Square that the Lebanese state will not spare any efforts to release the hostages held by the Islamic State.

Also, The Marada Movement leader Sleiman Frangieh congratulated the servicemen on their freedom, voicing hopes that the hostages held by the Islamic State will be released soon.

The AMAL movement said that “the joy on this day remains incomplete given that some hostages are still being held by the IS.”

In turn, Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi said that “a main part of the hostage case has been closed today, confirming that efforts will be deployed in a bid to release the Lebanese soldiers detained by the Islamic State.

This as the Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea hailed the efforts exerted by Premier Salam and General Security Chief Abbas Ibrahim, expressing thanks and appreciation to Qatar’s Emir.

For his part, Lebanon's Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdel-Latif Derian expressed his comfort and happiness for the release of the Lebanese servicemen.
