The Lebanese Armed Forces Intelligence arrested in North Lebanon on Monday fugitive Jihad Ahmad al-Ghazi on charges of collaborating with terrorist organizations through fugitive Mohammad Ahmad al-Satem and others who have been traveling between Lebanon and Syria and attempted to smuggle him into the Syrian territories to fight alongside terrorist groups.
In a statement issued by the army command, “the detainee confessed to forming small groups tasked with making explosive belts and wearing them regularly, following the appointment of al-Satem as an Emir of the region of Wadi Khaled.”
“The groups were planning on targeting the Lebanese army and preparing the grounds for the Islamic State’s arrival to Lebanon, as well as buying weapons and equipping the caves to be used as bases for the operations,” the statement read.
According to the same statement, the detainee confessed to planning on carrying out attacks in Beirut or Tripoli and that he attempted to enter the northeastern town of Arsal in order to reach its outskirts and join the Islamic State.
