Supporters of ex-MP Yaacoub gather outside Beirut’s Justice Palace
Family and supporters of former MP Hassan Yaacoub gathered on Friday outside the Justice Palace in Beirut amid tight security measures.

The move coincides with the Judicial Council’s session at the Palace tasked to tackle Imam Moussa al-Sadr’s case.

On Monday, the wife of Sheikh Mohammad Yaccoub and the mother of former MP Hassan Yaccoub declared hunger strike after holding an open-ended sit-in outside al-Safa Mosque for two weeks, demanding the release of her eldest son.

Yaacoub is in detention on charges of his involvement in the abduction of the son of deposed Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi. His supporters have been holding near daily protests to demand his release since his arrest last month.

Yaacoub's father was accompanying Imam Moussa al-Sadr and another man when they disappeared in Libya in 1978.
