Finance Minister Hassan Khalil meets Kataeb leader Gemayel

Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil said on Tuesday that Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea's nomination of Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun for the presidency “has created a new dynamic in the country.”

He voiced hopes that the development would help re-activate the work of the cabinet.

The minister’s comments were made after meeting with Kataeb leader MP Sami Gemayel.

“The economy will be revived with a president and effective cabinet and parliament,” he added.

Geagea declared on Monday his nomination of Aoun for the presidency.

Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since May 2014 when the mandate of Michel Sleiman ended without the election of a successor.

Several electoral sessions were scheduled, all but one were held for a lack of quorum at parliament due to the dispute over a consensual candidate.
