Contract workers of “Electricite Du Liban” (EDL) staged a protest at the company Friday, where they said in a press release that “after three years of issuing a law making contract workers full time employees, 80% of this law is still unenforced”.
“With the expiry of the service providing companies’ contract drawing near, we find ourselves within in a loop of rumors from extension of contracts, renewal, termination, or even bankruptcy,” they added.
They demanded all those concerned with this issue, especially sponsors of the political agreement to pressure involved parties and fasten the examination procedure of the fifth and 6th groups that are left out, which they know is ready at the Civil Service’s Council.
The press release also highlighted that “promises of granting those who succeed tenure at the company should be fulfilled”.
Protesters said that there are open vacancies to fit in all successful workers, requesting companies and those concerned to not hold off their demands any longer, otherwise they’ll be escalating their movements.
