General Security arrests Lebanese national for terror-linked charges
General Security declared on Tuesday that it apprehended a Lebanese national who has confessed to belonging to a terrorist group and fighting against the Lebanese army in 2013.

In a communiqué issued by the directorate-general of the General Security Department, a man, who was identified by his initials as M.B., admitted that he belongs to the al-Qaida-linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades.

He also confirmed that he received training on the use of weapons and the preparation of explosives, and was active in recruiting fighters.

He also confessed that he partook in the battles against the Lebanese army in the Abra suburb of the southern city of Sidon.

The June 2013 clashes witnessed fierce battles between the Lebanese army and armed men loyal to radical cleric Sheikh Ahmed al-Asir, who is currently in custody.

The suspect was transferred to the concerned courts to take the appropriate action against him.
