Pope Francis urges Lebanese to elect a president -Patriarch Rai
Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai stressed Tuesday, following his return from the Vatican, that Pope Francis is concerned in the issues of Lebanon and the Middle East.

Rai indicated that the pope and the Secretary of the Vatican Cardinal Pietro Barawlin urged all the Lebanese people as well as the parliamentary blocs to elect a president as soon as possible in a bid to break the country’s alarming deadlock.

Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since the mandate of President Michel Sleiman ended in May 2014.

The 35th parliamentary session set to elect a president will take place on February 8 with conflicting reports speculating that it will meet the same fate of its predecessors.
