REPORT: Lebanon is not capable of funding refugees’ humanitarian needs -Salam
Prime Minister Tammam Salam said Thursday that the Syrian tragedy did not only inflict upon Syrians but has spread onto many other countries which they fled to, stressing that the conflict can be addressed through a political solution solely.

Salam said in his speech at the London Donors Conference that “Lebanon is not capable of funding this huge burden,” considering that this conference should be a shift in the international response to the Syrian crisis.

Salam pointed out that “the annual humanitarian needs for Syrian refugees do not meet with the aids and funds provided, which means that there is a shortage in children’s school seats along with the poor nutrition.”

Donor nations pledged on Thursday to give billions of dollars in aid to Syrians as world leaders gathered for a conference in London to tackle the world's worst humanitarian crisis after the breakdown of peace talks the day before.

With Syria's five-year-old civil war raging and peace talks in Geneva halted after just a few days, the conference will try to address the needs of some 6 million people displaced within Syria and more than 4 million refugees in other countries.
