REPORT: Civil society groups stage sit-in at Beirut’s Riad al-Solh Square

“We Want Accountability” activists and other civil society groups staged Saturday a sit-in at Riad al-Solh Square in central Beirut, to protest against widespread corruption and waste across all public sectors, mainly in the issue of the waste crisis.

The protesters removed the iron barriers set along the road leading to the Grand Serail.

They also threw garbage at the Parliament and the Grand Serail to express objection to the waste exportation proposal.

A number of activists had erected tents on Friday night in the square in anticipation of the movement.
