Patriarch Rai calls blocs to make up their minds and elect a president

Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai stressed on Sunday that the Lebanese people “are entitled to live in a country that respects their rights.”

 

 “We urge political and parliamentary blocs that are hindering the presidential polls to make up their minds as soon as possible because the country is on the brink of collapse,” Rai said during his Sunday sermon.

 

Lebanon has been without a president since May 2014 when the mandate of Michel Sleiman ended without the election of a new president.

 

A parliamentary session tasked to elect a new president is scheduled for Monday.
