With a newly implemented nuclear deal with world powers, Iran has emerged from years of economic isolation and its first shipment of Persian rugs to the United States arrived to Alex Helmi, who was blocked from importing rugs from Iran since the US imposed sanctions in 2010.
With the first shipment in five years now in his showroom, Helmi could not hide his excitement.
“This shipment is a shipment of very, very fine handmade Persian carpets. This is the first shipment coming to America after 5 years of sanctions for Persian carpet and I hope this will be open, you know, for all the countries to have friendship and better understanding, moving in the right direction”, he said shortly after opening one of his new carpets.
