REPORT: Lebanon presidential election session adjourned until March 2
Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri deferred Monday the 35th presidential election session to March 2 due to lack of quorum.

Hezbollah had previously announced that it would be boycotting today’s session seemingly since the win of its candidate, MP Michel Aoun, was not guaranteed.

Lebanon has been without a head of state since the mandate of former President Michel Sleiman ended in May 2014.

The failure to elect a successor to Sleiman has plunged the country into a presidential impasse that has paralyzed the Parliament.

Reactions

Communication Minister Boutros Harb regretted that one political party was to disrupt the presidential election sessions.

“We are preparing a proposal for a constitutional adjustment, forcing all parliament members to attend the presidential election sessions,” Harb added.

For his apart, Head of Kataeb party PM Samy Gmayel said that the time has come for everyone to abide by democracy and accept its outcomes in all aspects.

“I regret the fact that democracy has reached this point in Lebanon,” he added.
