Man Is Allergic To His New Car, Can Only Drive It For 40 Minutes A Week
An unsatisfied car owner can only drive his new car for 40 minutes a week - because he is allergic to it.
Geoffrey Evans comes out in a rash every time he gets behind the wheel of his car.
His body reacts with a stinging sensation and an eczema-style outbreak which causes chronic itching.
Dr Evans, who has a Phd in combustion chemistry, is sensitive to formaldehyde, a chemical present in many products from household cleaners and clothes to toiletries.
He splashed out on his new car after claiming the salesman insisted the car did not contain the substance.
But he says he has since been told by the car manufacturer that their vehicles do contain a small amount of formaldehyde in the interior plastics.
He has been reduced to driving the car just once a week for no more than 40 minutes to avoid suffering a painful reaction.
Dr Evans, from Barnsley, South Yorks, says people need to be mindful of the potential for formaldehyde to be present in new cars.
