Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai said that politicians and deputies are committing a grave sin by neglecting their duties and failing to guarantee common good, which can be achieved through legislation, administrations and actions.
In his holy sermon delivered during Sunday’s mass at Bkerke, Rai considered that failing to elect a new president is a sin, whether directly or indirectly, by obstructing the parliamentary session, exercising rigidity in their positions and refusing to reach agreement or any solution.
“Accordingly, these politicians are contributing to the increase of corruption and spread of chaos at public institution as well as impoverishment of the citizens, depriving them of their basic rights and forcing them to immigrate to other countries in search for a decent life,” he explained.
On another note, Rai mentioned late former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in his prayers, urging all politicians to unite in order to rescue the constitutional institutions.
