PM Salam chairs meeting over trash crisis
Prime Minister Tammam Salam chaired on Saturday a meeting for the ministerial committee tasked with tackling solid waste.

The meeting was attended by Agriculture Minister Akram Chehayyeb, Energy Minister Arthur Nazarian, Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil, Industry Minister Hussein Hajj Hassan, Interior Minister Nouhad Mashnouq, Administrative Development Minister Nabil De Freij, Education Minister Elias Bou Saab and Head of the Council for Development and Reconstruction Nabil al-Jisr.

The conferees discussed different solutions proposed to address the alarming waste management crisis.

Lebanon has been grappling with a waste crisis following the July 17 closure of the Naameh landfill.

The cabinet pledged last year that the said landfill would be shut down and an alternative site would be found, however failed to live up to its promises.

The mess is a stark reminder of the cabinet crisis afflicting Lebanon, where politicians divided by local and regional crises have even failed to agree on where to dump the capital city's rubbish.
