Fares Soueid: We must adhere to Arab and International resolutions
Coordinator of the March 14 General Secretariat Fares Soueid said on Monday that the arms of the Lebanese state and illegal weapons cannot coexist, adding that the Taef accord and the Lebanese Constitution must be safeguarded.

Soueid’s comments were made during a press conference on the anniversary of March 14th demonstration.

“You have grown used to seeing the March 14 alliance all united to remember the formation of the coalition. It is a dangerous precedent that this front is not present here today,” Soueid lamented.

He also called for the full adherence to the Arab and International resolutions.

The March 14, 2005, rally was held to commemorate the one-month anniversary of the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri, who was assassinated in a massive car bomb in Beirut on February 14.

The alliance blamed Syria for the murder and the March demonstration called on the Syrian regime to withdraw its troops from Lebanon and end its hegemony.

Over a million demonstrators participated in the rally that was held in downtown Beirut.

Syria eventually withdrew the last of its troops from Lebanon on April 26, 2005.
