REPORT: Media and Telecoms committee tackles Lebanon’s illegal internet
Head of Media and Telecommunications Parliamentary Committee MP Hassan Fadlallah disclosed on Monday that illegal internet stations, which were recently uncovered in the country, were distributed across several regions through a fiber-optic network.

Following the meeting of Media and Telecoms Committee, Fadlallah pointed out that “there is a possibility that some illegal internet networks are still installed in Akkar,” adding that a technical inspection will be carried out in this regard.

The lawmaker stressed that the committee had called upon the Telecoms Ministry to dismantle these illegal networks, urging Prime Minister Tammam Salam to call for an emergency meeting to address the issue.

For his part, Telecoms Minister Boutros Harb noted that “a positive atmosphere prevailed during the meeting,” stressing that security breaches procedure has been halted.

“Some sides were bothered by the procedures taken by the ministry in terms of the file related to illegal internet networks, thereby they attacked both the minister and the ministry,” Harb added.
