The General Security Directorate General announced Thursday the arrest of a Syrian national on charges of belonging to a terrorist group.
The suspect, identified as M.F., confessed to taking part in clashes against the army in the northeastern border town of Arsal in 2014, and joining an armed group headed by Syrian Aa.H., known as “Abou al-Qaaqaa,” according to a statement issued by the directorate.
M.F. also confessed to receiving training on how to make and plant explosives and revealed that he plotted and prepared to carry out a suicide attack against an army checkpoint.
Over the past months, the army and security forces have arrested scores of terrorists and suspected terrorists linked to the armed groups involved in the conflict in Syria.
