Pirates board Turkish vessel, capture 6 crew off Nigeria

A Turkish maritime company says pirates have boarded a tanker ship off the coast of Nigeria and kidnapped six of its crew members.

Kaptanoglu Denizcilik said the pirates boarded the Malta-flagged M/T Puli early on Monday and captured six of the 14 crew members, including the captain. The tanker was bound for Cameroon.

The crew was not harmed during the incident but the company had no information on their whereabouts or current conditions.

The company also said it had not yet received any demand from the pirates.

The state-run Anadolu Agency said the incident occurred some 90 miles (145 kms) south of Nigeria's Port Harcourt.
