REPORT: Telecom data unreachable by State Security since June 2015

During the last quarter of 2015, the Director General of State Security apparatus Major General George Qaraa was invited to take part in a meeting at the CIA in the US.

In this regard, he sent a letter to Prime Minister Tammam Salam requesting for an authorization to travel as head of a delegation. One month later, Maj. Gen. Qaraa received a response that does not include an approval, leading the visit to cancelled. The same fact was repeated according to well-informed sources, concerning a meeting with the Italian intelligence.

On the security level, the State Security apparatus is handling the fight against terrorism, and in order to do so, the apparatus needs the relevant telecom data.
