A Cabinet session convened on Tuesday at the Grand Serail during which it called for tenders to meet the needs of the airport, but failed to resolve the dispute over the general directorate of state security and postponed it to the next cabinet session.
Information Minister Ramzi Jreij told reporters after the session that the Cabinet accepted the candidacies of several ambassadors.
The Cabinet urged the concerned ministers to follow up on the sex slavery case and the illegal internet networks, and to impose the maximum punishments on the perpetrators.
For his part, Prime Minister Tammam Salam reiterated his call for the swift election of a new president in order to end the presidential vacuum that is taking its toll on the Constitutional institutions.
Prior to the session, Health Minister Wael Abou Faour said that safety procedures at Beirut Airport must be addressed, seemingly since there are some serious warnings from companies to suspend flights.
Economy Minister Alain Hakim stressed that he will not approve the appropriation of funds to any security agency before the dispute on State Security is resolved.
For his part, Tourism Minister Michel Faraon pointed out that “the State Security rift does not have a sectarian twist.”
On another note, Foreign Affairs Minister Gebran Bassil said, “Our stance regarding labeling Hezbollah a terrorist organization is known.”
