REPORT: Telecommunications Ministry says spotted cable is for TV services
The Telecommunications Ministry said on that the recently spotted underwater cable in a river north of Beirut is used to transmit television services and is not an illegal internet setup.

In a statement, the ministry said that the cable in the region of Nahr el-Kalb is “a high-powered fiber-optic communications cable which provides TV services.”

The statement comes two days after state-owned telecom company Ogero declared that the cable was being used to offer illegal internet services.

Last month, Telecoms Minister Boutros Harb declared that illegal internet providers were operating in Lebanon, adding that they posed a security threat in the country because they make it easy for Israel to infiltrate Lebanon's network.
