The battles that took place in Aleppo showed a major role played by Afghan fighters, especially from Fatemioun Brigade.
These fighters are recruited by Iran from impoverished and vulnerable migrant communities living on its territories, and sent to join the Syrian war.
Many have since fled the battlefield and joined the refugee trail to Europe, and started to speak out on how they were forced to fight in Syria.
