Parliament’s Media and Telecommunications Committee held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the file related to Lebanon’s illegal internet networks.
During the session, the committee unanimously agreed to ban the head of the state-owned Telecoms Company Ogero, Abdel Menhem Youssef, from attending its meetings for being a suspect in the file of illegal internet scandal.
“I was not kicked out of the session, and here I am laughing it off,” Youssef told reporters as he headed outside the meeting.
In a press conference following the session, the committee’s head MP Hassan Fadlallah said that the illegal internet file will not be closed.
“Some equipment for the illegal internet network entered the country through legal crossings. We want to know how and who was responsible for it,” Fadlallah added.
He also stressed the committee’s insistence on finding the influential people who stand behind this scandal.
Prior to the session, Defense Minister Samir Mokbel said that “he handed in the report regarding the illegal internet, pointing out that no security breaches had occurred in the military institution.”
For his part, Health Minister Wael Abou Faour said that he joined the committee in order to address some of the ambiguous questions in this regard.
“We don’t know what has been happening and laying-off Youssef is still not enough,” he added.
