Speaker Nabih Berri said Monday that he will not call for a legislative session before the parliamentary committees finish discussions regarding electoral draft laws, noting that he still believes that the Parliament has the right to legislate at any time.
During a press conference, the speaker stated that a new electoral law requires agreement, addressing the deputies objecting to a parliamentary session.
“You are refusing any legislation unless it concerns an electoral law, and I have before me 17 proposals and draft laws and I will call on the committees to look into all the proposals and draft laws,” he said.
On another note, Berri responded to the proposals regarding electing a president for two years, deeming them “a waste of time,” adding that such a step requires an amendment to the constitution.
Commenting on the municipal elections, Berri stressed that they will be held on time and as scheduled, slamming any reports of a possibility of delay.
