UCC Member Nehme Mahfoud called on all teachers of the public and private schools and all beneficiaries of the pay scale to take part in the general strike to be held Tuesday across Lebanon, urging them to gather outside the Education Ministry to stage a sit-in.
“The behavior of the political class has become unacceptable. The refined and democratic approach previously adopted by the committee does not mean that this committee is lenient, dispersed or frustrated, and tomorrow will prove it,” he added.
Commenting on linking the UCC’s movement to the possibility of cancelling the municipal elections, Mahfoud stressed that the politicians are looking for an excuse, “but we will not give them this excuse and should the pay scale fail to be added to the agenda’s items, they must bear the responsibility of their decisions.”
