REPORT: Contract teachers demand right to be granted permanent employment

Secondary school contract teachers carried out Tuesday a sit-in outside the Education Ministry in Beirut's UNESCO area, calling for their right to be granted full-time employment.

The protesters called on Education Minister Elias Bou Saab to support them and press the Parliament to pass a balanced draft law that grants all teachers their “wasted rights.”

Bou Saab later joined the protest, expressing solidarity with the teachers.

The minister said that the Parliament will endorse the wage hike at the next parliamentary session.

Following the contract teachers’ symbolic rally, the Union Coordination Committee kicked off a protest.
