REPORT: Cabinet extends deadline for handing over telecom data

Information Minister Ramzi Jreij declared that the cabinet approved the extension of the period set to hand over the telecommunications data to the security apparatuses, adding that the decision to hand over these data to the State Security apparatus will remain in the hands of PM Tammam  Salam.

Following the cabinet session held at the Grand Serail, Education Minister Elias Bou Saab said that they called for making the telecom data available for all the apparatuses, including State Security, stressing that Salam’s stance is similar to theirs.

In turn, Economy Minister Alain Hakim revealed that it has been agreed upon holding two special cabinet sessions, one for the Council for Development and Reconstruction and another for the issue of incinerators, noting that the dates will be set later.

For his part, Labor Minister Sejaan Azzi said that the cabinet refused to shift the Labor’s Day holiday to Tuesday May 3rd.

Commenting on the issue of bird flu, Minister Jreij noted that the cabinet approved to grant the farmers compensations after the virus spread and killed their birds.

Prior to the session, Minister of Interior Nouhad Mashnouq said that “claims that teachers will not be supervising the elections are inaccurate."
