REPORT: Lebanese army kills top IS leader in Arsal
The Lebanese army issued on Thursday a statement whereby it said that it killed a top Islamic State group leader and his bodyguard during a raid on the outskirts of the border town of Arsal.

The official was identified as Nayef Shaalan, known as Abou Fawz, and his bodyguard Ahmed Mroueh.

Their death came during an operation carried out by the military in the Wadi al-Hosn area during which troops apprehended another bodyguard named Mohammed Mousalli and several others.

Three soldiers were slightly injured during the raids.

The military carried out patrols inside the town of Arsal following the operations.

The army has been battling extremists near the border with Syria since the IS and al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front shortly controlled Arsal in August 2014.
