Public Health Minister Wael Abou Faour revealed that series of decisions led to the drop in prices of medications in Lebanon, noting that the price of prescription drugs has decreased by nearly 21%.
In a press conference, Abou Faour explained that savings have reached around USD 263 million annually, while a minimum of USD 55 million was saved for the National Social Security Fund.
In this context, he pointed out that these savings must reflect in the interest of the citizen, rather than used to settle deficits in certain NSSF funds, stressing that the NSSF is required to raise its contribution to the medical expenses related to chronic illness so that it covers 100% of the costs.
