Plant That Grows Chips And Ketchup Set To Go On Sale
A unique plant that grows both tomatoes and potatoes is expected to be launched in Britain for the first time.

Dubbed the “ketchup and chips tree”, the strange TomTato is designed for families who have limited garden space and those living in flats.

And the weird hybrid which has taken six years to perfect through hard graft, is expected to fly off shelves when it hits Morrisons stores.

The two-in-one which can grow to a meter high has cherry tomatoes on top and white potatoes underground.

Developed by Ipswich-based horticultural firm Thompson and Morgan, the plants are grown in the Netherlands for Morrisons.

The supermarket chain insists the rare plant has not been genetically modified and is the result of years of grafting stems to a perfect thickness for the perfect TomTato marriage of crop and taste.

The veg plot in a pot costs £5 and yields tomatoes and potatoes from July to October.

It follows the launch of the “egg and chips” plant which is an aubergine and potato hybrid.
