People of Tripoli want change - Rifi

Former Justice Minister Major General Ashraf Rifi said Friday that he backs civil societies in the northern city of Tripoli.

“We will support them with all our power and we are not in conflict with anyone,” Rifi said in an interview with Sawt Al-Jabal radio, adding that he will not name any candidate for the municipal polls [in Tripoli].

Rifi accused influential political groups in the city of trying to divide shares ahead of the elections, rejecting a consensus list.

“People want change… we want a council that works with harmony,” he stated.

On another note, the former minister said, “The changes happening in the region must be taken in a positive way.”

“There is a new Saudi policy and the kingdom has always stood by Lebanon’s side,” he said.

As for the Syrian crisis, Rifi told the radio station that the Syrian regime, which backs Hezbollah, is clinically dead and will fall sooner or later.
