REPORT: Hariri holds talks with Archbishop Matar

Former Prime Minister visited Monday the Maronite Archdiocese of Beirut where he met with Beirut's Maronite Archbishop Boulos Matar.

They both discussed the presidential issue and the municipal elections in the capital.

Hariri stressed the importance of parity, saying: “We call upon all the residents of Beirut to head to ballot boxes and vote in favor of a fair representation.”

He pointed out that the capital is in dire need of development, urging the voters to elect the “Byerte” list, translating to the Beirutis List, with its slogan “Keep Beirut For Its People”.

On another note, Hariri told the archbishop that he had held talks with Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea earlier.

He stressed that dialogue with Geagea is ongoing, noting that “even if there are some difference, the strong relationship between the LF and the Future Movement will always be maintained.”

For his part, Archbishop Matar appealed to Beirut residents to be respect just representation at the elections and work for the development of the capital.

Separately, the former minister held talks with the Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin at Beit al-Wasat.

Following the meeting, Zasypkin stressed that the Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov are seeking to develop the dialogue with Hariri in a bid to enhance the relations between Russia and Lebanon.

Zasypkin also emphasized that efforts are being exerted to conclude the presidential elections.

“We are contacting all the concerned sides. Endeavors are being exerted in this regard to serve the interest of the Lebanese people,” he added.
