Lebanon’s Grand Mufti says presidential vacuum dangerous matter

Mufti of the Republic Sheikh Abdel Latif Derian said Tuesday that “Lebanon’s presidential vacuum is a serious matter that can solely be addressed through a political will and a national unity.”

Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum after the mandate of Michel Sleiman ended in May 2014 without the election of a successor.

Deep disputes between rival political parties have thwarted the polls.

Derian also stressed the need to take part in the municipal polls, seemingly since it’s a national duty.

On the occasion of Isra and Miraj, he called on Arab states and the international community to work very closely to stop the ongoing hostilities taking place in Syria, particularly in Aleppo.
