REPORT: Parliament committees discuss new electoral law

Joint parliamentary committees held a meeting Tuesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Farid Makari to discuss a new vote law.

Following the meeting, Change and Reform bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan said that “the Orthodox electoral law, which means each sect would elect its own MPs with the country as a single district, is the only one that has been referred to parliament.”

Future bloc MP Khodr Habib said, “The Kataeb party and Hezbollah refuse to limit discussions to the hybrid electoral law.”

For his part, Deputy House Speaker, Farid Makari, announced that the upcoming session for the committees will be on May 9.
