Head of the Media and Telecommunications Committee MP Hassan Fadlallah said that the issue of the illegal internet is being followed up on in order to reveal all those involved in such activities.
Following the committee’s meeting at Nejmeh Square, he said that “the judiciary will continue its work in this regard, as no one will be granted cover.”
Fadlallah revealed that a report by the Lebanese Armed Forces Intelligence indicated that Israeli equipment was used in a number of stations, pointing out that the most dangerous part was considering dismantling these equipment before the concerned authorities reach them.
In the same context, the deputy said that the equipment in Barouk station was stolen and returned to their original owner, explaining that Minister Boutros Harb took immediate measures against an employee at Ogero, accused of smuggling equipment to Barouk in 2009.
“In case of any cover up, we will not hesitate to uncover everything and release all related reports,” he added.
For his part, Telecom Minister Boutros Harb declared that he asked the committee to schedule a session dedicated to discussing the issue of “Google Cash” in order to avoid any mix up between the cases.
Eight people were arrested on charges of involvement in the issues of illegal internet and “Google Cash,” he said.
Harb noted that the call for interrogating the employees at the Telecom Ministry does not conform to the norms, stressing that there are no attempts for any cover up.
Answering a question concerning Ogero head Abdel Menhem Youssef, he said that Youssef has been in an accident in France and he needs a medical leave for 10 days, stressing that he is not attempting to escape from the judiciary.
