REPORT: Hariri meets with Rai in Bkerke, discusses municipal elections

Future Movement leader MP Saad Hariri met on Friday with Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai in Bkerke.

 

Following the meeting, Hariri accused Hezbollah of obstructing the presidential elections, stressing that all lawmakers should attend the parliamentary sessions tasked to elect a new president.

 

“There are two candidates for the presidential post and one of them will be elected,” Hariri said in reference to Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun and Marada leader MP Sleiman Frangieh.

 

Hariri noted that Patriarch Rai is urging all MPs to attend the parliamentary sessions, adding that they both stressed importance of ending the presidential vacuum.

 

Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since the mandate of President Michel Sleiman ended with the election of a successor.

 

Deep disputes between rival political parties have thwarted the elections.
