REPORT: Jdita residents sign petition against postponing municipal elections in their town

Hundreds of residents in the town of Jdita in Lebanon’s Bekaa signed a petition demanding the conduction of the municipal elections on time.

The petition was also signed by the parliament members residing in the region of Jdita, and was submitted to the Bekaa province where it is to be transferred to the Ministry of Interior.

Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouq had announced on Friday a decision to postpone the municipal elections in Zahle’s Jdita and West Bekaa’s Hosh al-Harimeh regions.

The decision came following the ongoing sectarian tensions in the town of Jdita, while the minister cited security reasons for postponing the polls in Hosh al-Harimeh region.
