Jounieh, the capital of the Keserwan district, witnessed a tight competition between its two candidate lists.
The first is headed by Fouad Boueri, backed by the Lebanese Forces, former MPs Mansour Ghanem al-Bon and Farid Haikal al-Khazen, and a number of local families. The list also has the support of businessman Neemat Frem, the son of a former MP and Cabinet minister.
The rival ticket, dubbed ““Karamat Jounieh” (Jounieh’s dignity), is headed by Joan Hbeich and backed by the Free Patriotic Movement and the Kataeb Party.
In this context, Ghanem al-Bon noted that “reports about vote-buying are far from being true.”
For his part, former MP and Cabinet minister and Farid Haikal al-Khazen said that “the voter turnout in the city is good,” expressing hope that the electoral battle would be linked to Jounieh’s development.
“Some parties, however, have politicized the battle,” he added.
