Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt said Friday that “halting the works at the Janna dam is a ‘stupid act’ that would waste an opportunity to store water and make use of it.”
“All the valleys in Mount Lebanon are almost similar, and a sacrifice is inevitable in order to store water resources,” Jumblatt said via his Twitter account.
The PSP chief's comments come one day after the Cabinet failed to discuss the construction of a controversial dam in the Janna Valley.
Jumblatt along with members of the Free Patriotic Movement support efforts to resume work on the dam located in Mount Lebanon's Jbeil district, north of Beirut, saying that objections are politically motivated.
On the other hand, the Kataeb Party has been the project’s most outspoken critic, warning to take action if work is not halted.
