Prime Minister Tammam Salam said Monday that “the municipal elections represented a great achievement that must be further built upon in order to lift Lebanon out of its political coma”.
In a statement Salam stressed that “the only way to escape the stalemate phase , which has weakened the states institutions and diminished its role, is to elect a president as soon as possible, then to proceed with the preparations for parliamentary elections.
“Those two steps are enough to revive Lebanon’s democratic system and political life, along with stepping up its economic status,” he emphasized.
On another note, Salam congratulated the Interior Ministry and municipalities for their success in managing the electoral process in all aspects.
