Machnouk doubts ability of government to issue new electoral law

Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk stated in a press conference held on Monday that “in the last three months they managed to thwart three IS- bombing attempts.”

On another note, Macnhouk called on all political forces to re-evaluate their performance, vocabulary and headlines, while breaking the messages the Lebanese youth delivered through the election process.

Machnouk pointed out that "Lebanon has succeeded in rescuing democratic traditions."

“The voter turnout in the municipal elections proved that the Lebanese people are longing for the re-activation of the states’ intuitions,” Machnouk added.

“It’s illogical and unjust to compare the municipal elections held this year with the ones held in 2010, the situation in Lebanon and the region has changed drastically; the elections have brought back meaning to politics in Lebanon,” he explained.

In the same context, Machnouk stated the parliamentary elections should be held on time, doubting the political forces ability to issue a new electoral law.

On the Christians absence in Tripoli’s municipal elections, the deputy said that it was a “national crime”.
