Social Affairs Minister Rashid Derbas said after leaving the session that “Speaker Nabih Berri asked Deputy Speaker Farid Makari about the latest developments reached by the joint committees over the electoral law, and Makara said there was zero progress.”
Derbas added that he felt exceptional appreciation to what’s so called Foad Boutros’s law, stating that no steps were taken in that matter.
For his part Kataeb Party Leader MP Sami Gemayel said that “a senate should be created and parliamentary elections must be held according to individual departments.”
Berri emphasized that “there shall be no extension for the parliament and there is no going back to the 60s electoral law, as going back to them may lead to a revolution.
In the same context MP Ali Fayyad said that, “many ideas were put forward and one of them was to cancel out political sectarianism”, stressing that all pending matters will be solved during the sessions scheduled on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of August.
