Geagea says dialogue with Hariri revolves around choice of electing Aoun as president
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said on Wednesday that he rejects any new Doha Accord-like political settlement, adding that such a move would be “destructive” for the country.
Geagea’s comments were made in an interview with the Kuwaiti al-Rai newspaper.
About the recent talks between LF media officer Melhem Riachi and Future Movement leader former Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Geagea said that “dialogue with the Future Movement has not been severed and will never be severed.”
He also noted that the election of Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun is“the only way to end the presidential vacuum,” revealing that “dialogue with The Future Movement is revolving around this issue.”
“Until the moment, the Future Movement fears that such a choice would be a leap into the unknown,” Geagea concluded by saying.
Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since the mandate of president Michel Sleiman ended in May 2014 without the election of a successor.
Deep disputes between rival political parties have thwarted the election.
