Army wounds wanted fugitive in east Lebanon following gunfire exchange

Armed clashes erupted Tuesday between a military patrol and a wanted suspect from Al-Jaafar clan in the town of Iaat near Hay al-Sharawneh neighborhood in the eastern city of Baalbek.

Hamdan Ali Sobhi Jaafar was critically injured during the exchange of gunfire. He was then admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Consequently, the army deployed heavily in the area.

In the same context, the state-run National News Agency reported that a warrant officer received a hand wound after a grenade targeted his checkpoint. He was transported to a nearby hospital.

Another suspect, identified as M. Wehbe, was detained during a raid in Hay al-Sharawneh neighborhood after the army found weapons in his house.
