French Foreign Minister Jean-marc Ayrault declared Monday that his country will exert efforts in order to maintain peace in Lebanon, stressing that France will remain committed to keeping its troops within the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon deployed across South Lebanon.
In a speech he delivered before UNIFIL French troops in Naqoura, Ayrault noted that “the blue line’s stability is a priority for France,” adding that the mission of the international forces is to protect the fragile peace, which will later translate into a complete ceasefire.
Ayrault arrived in Beirut on Monday morning in a two-day visit, during which he will meet with Lebanese officials to discuss the political and security situations in the country.
